Bandwith Alert: Please minimise your add-ons

Post  Admin on Sun Mar 08, 2009 1:55 pm

Hi everyone,

Today while I was in the Kara raid, I noticed that my upload usage jumped into around 650kbps. This is with only 13 people online and 10 of them in Kara Raid. Please bear in mind that I only have 1024kbps upload, if it ever reach around 800ish, you will feel the server start lagging, at 900ish, it'll be difficult for anyone to move, at 1024kbps, you won't be able to play anymore. Before I upgraded the connection my upload was only 384kbps. No wonder why previously we can't do proper Kara.

Please review your add-on and remove any unimportant add-on that hooks into the server. That means any add-on that ask for information from server, if you PC request information from my server, it'll take my upload bandwith/usage.

If the trend of consumption is like this, I won't have enough bandwith once we have 25 people in a raid. The solution is either review your add-on usage or I'll increase the server's data compression. This will mean slightly more lag but bandwith usage is lower.

Just FYI...

Cheers..

Any idea what sort of addons we should minimize/disable before login ?

Won't mind turning off addons that do this, but it would be helpful if we can get a general idea which addons to turn off.

Thanks ! Very Happy

The problem is I don't know what add-on are you guys using, so I'll leave it to you guys to do your own research on your favourite add-on..

I think these add-ons are ok, I don't think they hook into server, can anyone confirm?

Thanks.

Since Felix noticed this during raid, maybe it's just the raid related add ons ?

Should we turn off DBM and/or DamageMeter or something ?

On a somewhat related issue, if any of you guys experience frequent lockups / screen freeze during raids, please lower your graphic display to minimal.

I used to run them on maximal settings, and this screen freeze would happen all the time.
Tried lowered them to minimal, and screen freeze didn't happen anymore.

Well, almost none that would require hard reboot anyways, just some lag during scripted encounter, but I figure it happens to everyone else.

Damage meter is not important to have, it's just number so you can brag about your DPS Razz heheheh. With DBM (Deadly Boss Mod), We need to find out who really need it, who doesn't. Same thing with Threat Meter..

In last night's Kara the upload usage hover between 400-450 kbits/sec which is still a lot, but at least it's not as bad before...

DBM = raid leader only?
damage meter is not important
threat meter = tanker n Damage dealers?

I think DTM is for dps only if there are bosses that cannot be taunt. Also even if boss can be taunted if dps is too high, tank we'll just get the aggro for a short time.

Well, someone finally did some testing and it seems Cartographer sucks bandwith..

Taken from http://www.trinitycore.org/forum/cartographer-courses-very-big-lagg-t7271.html

So during raid, could you please turn off Cartographer and other add-ons that hooks into server especially in SWP (During Mu'ru encounter)
